At NFS Newcastle, we’re all about high-performance flow control solutions designed for the unique needs of every client.

We recently stepped in to assist a local council by restoring a critical pump station to peak performance. The station’s outdated and underperforming pump was struggling to keep up with demanding flow and pressure requirements, reducing the efficiency of the entire system. Recognising the need for a robust, dependable solution, our team chose the 55kW Southern Cross Turbine Pump, a model highly regarded in Australia for its durability and efficiency under tough conditions. Known for delivering reliable, high-flow rates and withstanding variable water quality, this pump is particularly well-suited for challenging Australian environments, where water systems must operate efficiently and continuously to meet community needs.

NEW Southern Cross Turbine Pump

After removing the ageing unit, our experienced technicians installed the Southern Cross Turbine Pump, now delivering an impressive 36 litres per second (36 l/s) at a head of 95 metres—significantly enhancing the station’s ability to meet its operational demands. Positioned 2.6 metres below ground, the new pump optimises water intake while boosting system stability, essential for the station’s long-term performance. This upgrade not only improves reliability but also significantly impacts the station’s efficiency by reducing energy consumption and operational strain. In any water system, pump efficiency is vital; an efficient pump like the Southern Cross not only ensures steady water supply but also minimises wear on components, extending the service life and lowering maintenance costs over time.

To maintain this level of performance, regular maintenance is crucial. For the 55kW Southern Cross Turbine Pump, this includes routine checks to clean components, lubricate bearings, and inspect seals and impellers, all of which prevent sediment buildup and ensure smooth, efficient operation. By following a consistent maintenance schedule, councils and other operators can keep this advanced turbine pump running smoothly, minimising downtime and maximising reliability.

With this installation, the pump station is now fully equipped to deliver high-efficiency, reliable service to the community. The NFS team is proud to have not only restored the station but also significantly enhanced its capabilities with the 55kW Southern Cross Turbine Pump. Ready for action, this pump is set to meet the council’s water management needs, bringing stability and efficiency to this essential facility.
